December 2022 Security Topic - Fake Loan Forgiveness Emails

Recently SUNY Brockport email accounts have been getting phishing emails claiming students have unclaimed money. The email makes the following claims: 

  • They are the U.S. Department of Education
  • If you submit your information and maybe pay a processing fee you will get the money
  • The money is also in relation to hardships experienced due to COVID

Some of the scams can be quite convincing. Please see the article linked below for some tips on dealing with these types of scams.

Need to report a Phishing Scam? 

Forward all suspected phishing emails to ReportPhish@brockport.edu and delete them. Do not reply, click on any links or download any attachments.
