Student Computers
It is recommended students bring laptop (or notebook) computers to campus to help them be successful. This allows students the flexibility to complete course work at their convenience.
At this time we are not recommending students purchase Chromebooks. Some programs with special software may have additional requirements. It is best to check with your program to make sure you are aware of any specific hardware and software needs before purchasing your device.
Minimum Recommended Laptop Specifications
- Microsoft Windows 11, or MacOS
- Processor: Intel: Core i5 or higher / AMD: A6/Ryzen 5 or higher / Apple M1
- 16 GB RAM or higher
- 256 GB Solid State Drive(SSD)
- Integrated Wireless Card
- Webcam / Microphone
High End Program Minimum Recommended Laptop Specifications
These specifications are recommended for programs such as Computer Science or Journalism and Broadcasting. You can check with your program to see if a higher end laptop is necessary.

- Processor: Intel: Core i7 or i9 / AMD: Ryzen 7 or 9 / Apple M1
- 32 GB RAM or higher
- Discrete Graphics Card
- Graphics Memory: 4GB or higher
- 500 GB or larger Solid State Drive(SSD)
- Integrated Wireless Card
- Webcam / Microphone

- Microsoft Office 365 (Get free for students at Office.com)
- Surge protectors
If you are having trouble paying for a laptop for college, consider applying for the Golden Eagle Opportunity Fund or speaking with your financial aid advisor.
